FAQ

Every Virtue Alchemy candle is made by hand in our studio in Chicago!

Our products are made with magic and care so we're glad you asked!

Candles: Always trim your wick before burning. This will help your candle last longer, give off less soot, and help with a more even burn. Allow the wax to melt to the edges on the first burn, but for no longer than 4 hours. After 4 hours, carbon naturally builds up in the wick and it may form a mushroom cap. This causes an unstable flame that can be too tall and cause soot to stain the vessel. Always always always trim your wick before burning your candle-- you can use scissors, nail clippers, or a wick trimmer.

While our candles are highly fragranced, soy wax tends to produce a more gentle hot throw. Many of our customers claim that our candles do not give them headaches or migraines, unlike other candle brands.

We make our candles with soy wax and fragrance oils that are phthalate and paraben free.

A candle uses wax as fuel and the wick is what the candle uses to burn the fuel. Some soot and smoke can be natural in burning a candle. However, to keep the soot to a minimum it's very important that you trim your wick before each burn. Trimming your wick will minimize soot and smoke-- and it will make your candle last longer.

Fragrance oils are specially formulated to burn safely in candles-- and many of them can also be used in skincare products! Keeping your home and body safe with products that are meant to be used in candles and diffusers is our number 1 priority. Many of our fragrances contain essential oils as part of the blend.

After speaking with fragrance producers, we've also learned that synthetic fragrances are oftentimes more sustainable to the environment to create and less expensive-- which means we can create exceptionally high quality products for you without passing on additional expenses.

Because our oils are pre-blended, we are not able to produce a fragrance that has a single note. Instead, you'll find complementary and complex layers of fragrance in each of our products.

While we do not recycle your used containers to make new products, we are creating an ever expanding line of DIY kits so that you can refill your favorite Virtue Alchemy candles and vessels over and over again.
